Blockchain & ILTACON 2018

Blockchain is all the buzz these days, but many are still trying to figure out what it is and is there a potential use case for this technology platform at your firm. The good news is that there will be a series of four sessions devoted to blockchain at ILTACON 2018 on August 19-23rd in National Harbor, MD that you should sign up for.

The series kicks off with “Blockchain 101: It’s Not Just Crypto-currency” on Monday, August 20th. Jay Hull of Jay D. Hull Consulting will help you learn what blockchain is and why the technology matters. In addition, he will discuss importance of blockchain technology for the legal industry going beyond crypto-currency.

On Wednesday, August 22nd, there will be two blockchain sessions. The first “Real World Blockchain Solutions” will focus on projects designed and implemented by ILTA colleagues using blockchain. Christen Bartelt, Co-Founder & CEO of Abakos, Inc. and Andrew Brereton, Vice President, GCO Operations at American Express will discuss mistakes to avoid, and tips to keep in mind, as you explore blockchain use cases. The session will provide you with real blockchain products including real firm experience with the solutions that you can use today.

The second is “How to Build Your First Blockchain App.” Peter Buck, Vice President of Product Strategy and Brad Clements, Chief Software Architect at NetDocuments, will lead this fun and highly-interactive session providing hands-on, practical guidance for moving forward with your ideas to develop a blockchain application or use case.

The final session in the series is on Thursday, August 23rd - “The Future of Blockchain.” David Fisher, CEO at Integra Ledger/Global Legal Blockchain Consortium, Brian Kuhn, Co-Founder & Leader of IBM Watson Legal at IBM Corporation and Dean Sonderegger, VP Legal Markets & Innovation at Wolters Kluwer will examine the future of blockchain for legal services, prospective uses for blockchain in legal which are still in their infancy, and the blockchain – artificial intelligence connection. They will provide insight on the start-ups, standards groups, educational resources and associations you need to keep an eye on to learn more about blockchain and its potential impact on the legal industry.
