ILTACON Microsoft Office 2019 Recap

At ILTACON this year, there were many “must-see” sessions. One of those is actually a three part series on Office 365. Each day of the series focused on a different aspect of the Office 365 platform. In this blog I will be sharing with you an overview of each day’s session. My goal is to help you decide which recording(s) are applicable to you and your environment. The best part of this three part series is that the presenters -- Jeffrey Roach, Donna Payne and Sherry Kappel -- created a fabulous PDF of a OneNote notebook containing all kinds of resources, tips and lessons learned.

The first session was on Monday entitled “What You Need to Know About Office 365”. This session offered the unique perspective from two different Firms -- Brownie Davis from Fish & Richardson and Chad Ergun from Davis Graham & Stubbs -- on their planning and  Administrative Center Experience with a focus on Data Protection. The key takeaways were around understanding the options available, creating the vision for your future state of your desktop (and how to live in the transition state - because you are going to be there for a while), working through dependencies, incorporating security, and managing the continuous change.

The second session was on Tuesday entitled “Office 365 Implementation and Deployment”. This session’s focus was on the deployment aspect of Office 365. Jennifer Zanieski spoke on her Firm’s decision on the channel they chose and the challenges associated with that decision. Jay Parekh offered his insight into mistakes to avoid, marketing and training strategies, building adoption and selecting the applications to deploy spring boarding off of his experience after doing a myriad of implementations for a variety of different Firms.

The last session was on Wednesday entitled . This session’s focus was on the myriad of other applications that are part of the Office 365 landscape outside of the traditional Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Highlights and demos of Teams, ToDo, Power BI, Planner, Delve, PowerApps, Flow, Dynamics CRM, Whiteboard, and Stream were the highlight of this session.

Together this series offered a cover to cover look at the Office 365 landscape as it looks today. If you are in the process of dipping your toe or you have already jumped in, these sessions are bound to offer you insight.
