Tracing the Precedents of a Cell
Precedents Cells are referred by a formula in another cell. Your cell has $96.00. A Tracer arrow will display that indicate which cells are used to calculate this value.
- [Select] the cell that contains the formula you want to trace.
- [Navigate] to the Formulas tab
- [Click]Trace Precedents.
- Excel adds a tracer arrow from each cell that provides data to the active cell.
Tracing the Dependents of a Cell
Dependent Cells contains a value (formula) which cells depend on selected cells. For example, if cell D10 contains the formula =B5, cell D10 is a dependent of cell B5.
- [Select] the cell that you want to trace
- [Navigate] to the Formulas tab
- [Click]Trace Dependents.
- Excel adds a tracer arrow to each cell that uses the active cell’s data.
