Set Dates in Your Outlook Calendar Using Shortcuts

When creating a calendar item, use these Outlook shortcuts to quickly set dates.

Use Text

Text-based date calculations also work in the date fields.  Type the text representing the date you would like to add and press [Tab] to update.

  • Tomorrow                         ·      Yesterday                      ·      Next week
  • Next month                      ·      Next year                       ·      This Wednesday
  • Next Wednesday              ·      3rd Wednesday             ·      Last Wednesday

  • Holidays that fall on the same date every year can also be entered as text, such as Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

    Use Numbers

Type a day of the month into the Start time field and press [Tab] to automatically set the date to that day in the current month.

  • Start and end times can be set by typing the hour and/or minute and p or a (for example, 945a = 9:45 AM and 1p = 1:00 PM) then pressing [Tab].

    Use Formulas

Use formulas to automatically update the current date of the appointment with the added amount of time.  Type a number plus one of the following formulas into the Start time date field and press [Tab] to update the field.

    • Type d to add days (5d adds 5 days)
    • Type w to add weeks (5w adds 5 weeks)
    • Type mo to add months (5mo adds 5 months)
    • Type y to add years (5y adds 5 years)
