Word on the Promenade

You could feel the excitement in the air as people walked the halls looking for just the right session or heading to Law Department Day to kick off a great ILTACON 2015. Bob DuBois and Randi Mayes shared ILTACON statistics when they opened the keynote. ILTA reached a new record with 1600+ attendees and about as many exhibitors. 336 new attendees have come to ILTACON this year and 132 members made the trip to ILTACON 2015 from 14 countries.

Many tweeted about the keynote speaker, Sir Ken Robinson. Speaking of, you can follow the ILTA Twitter feed from our conference website or track #ILTACON. Sir Ken Robinson asked us to consider how to prepare for a future in our world that we cannot predict. If you like what you heard, you can follow Sir Ken Robinson’s Twitter feed at @SirKenRobinson. To learn more about Sir Ken Robinson see his website containing articles, videos and more.

Attendees tested out Eventpad in the Litigation Support Roundtable and conference rooms started to fill up quickly for many sessions in information governance, incident response and the Microsoft Company Update to name a few. Exhibitors also attended a session held by JoAnna Forshee and Jobst Elster today to get acclimated to ILTACON. This year they invited an ILTA member, Kevin Sullivan, to speak and give vendors suggestions on how to communicate, market and sell effectively to legal IT customers.

You may have planned to go to the Law Firm 101 session this morning that was cancelled. If you are interested in the ILTA Law Firm 101 initiative, you can sign up to be interviewed while attending the conference. If you do not have time for an interview but have ideas to share, consider answering these survey questions.

ILTACON TV

Begin looking for the videos of engaging interviews by Randi Mayes, ILTA’s Executive Director, with John Alber, Dean Leung and Chris Boyd on the ILTACON website or outside the Modena room on the Promenade Level. After Tuesday, you will find even more interviews by Randi Mayes and Monica Bay, freelance journalist and Fellow at CodeX: The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics. They will interview Sir Ken Robinson, Betsi Roach, Judge Andrew Peck, Martin Metz, Leigh Isaacs, R.P. Smith and George Socha.

Legal Bytes and the Exhibit Hall

All I can say is The Legal Bytes song, “I’m in love with a user,” rocked! They were throwing T-shirts to the crowd. Did you get yours signed?

The exhibitors decked out themselves and their booths in great style for the opening reception, “Once Upon a Time.” Tracy Elmblad’s wicked step mother from Snow White and Ben Weinberger’s Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride ranked near the top for me. Rumor has it Rick Krzyminski made a fantastic Elvis but I never did find him in the crowd. What were some of your favorites?

Volunteering Opportunities

If you want to be involved in planning next year's conference, learn how you can volunteer for the ILTACON 2016 Planning Committee.

If you did not get to attend the Local Member Networking Event and want to know more about volunteering with ILTA, visit the volunteer station at the member registration desk on the Promenade Level.

Quick Reminders

Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., the first Monica Bay STEM Leadership award will be presented at the Women Who Lead session, “Lead with Confidence.” Alison Grounds, litigation partner at Troutman Sanders and founding and Managing Director of the eDiscovery subsidiary Troutman Sanders eMerge will receive the award.

And the nominees are… be sure to celebrate your peers Tuesday evening at the 6th Annual Distinguished Peer Awards dinner in the Augustus Ballroom followed by the After-Glow Party. Enjoy a formal sit-down dinner and celebrate your award-winning peers. Glamorous attire optional. You can glitz up your badge too.
