Members recently discussed cloning hard drives for litigation, training new Helpdesk support, obtaining cyber insurance in small to mid-sized firms and more. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.
HARD DRIVE CLONING
When seeking recommendations on cloning a hard drive for a court, ILTA members strongly recommended hiring a professional to handle electronically stored information (ESI) due to liability concerns. ILTA’s Connected Community contains webinars and conference sessions on hiring outside help for ESI work. See “ESI Protocol 101: A Tale of Two Perspectives.” To better understand the court’s expectations on ESI, listen to “What Makes up ESI Protocols?” and to assist in selecting the right vendor access, “A Checklist for Getting the Most out of Your E-Discovery Vendor Relationship.”
NEW HELPDESK SUPPORT
Onboarding a new employee in any department poses challenges from systems to office culture. A new Helpdesk employee faces high expectations with little background knowledge to assist her. A member asked “How can I improve first call resolution for a new Helpdesk employee?” The Small Firm Forum at ILTACON 2015, recommended watching a monitor mirroring the trainer's desktop for thorough and effective training. “Performance and Costs Behind Staffing the Desk: A Helpdesk Health Check” provides guidance on measuring Helpdesk progress. Straight from ILTACON 2015, learn what other trends and innovations are happening at the Helpdesk in “The Service Desk of Tomorrow: Staffing Trends and Innovations” and “Remote Support Solutions for the Legal Service Desk.”
CYBER-INSURANCE
Many firms now add a cyber-liability insurance policy in addition to the standard lawyer’s professional liability (LPL) policy. Firms use the policies to cover the costs associated with a cyber-security breach and to fill the gaps potentially left by an LPL policy. To help determine whether this is needed for your firm, read the ABA Journal article, “Cyber Liability Insurance is an Increasingly Popular, Almost Necessary Choice for Law Firms.” The Business Insurance article, “Law Firms Looking into Cyber Insurance,” discusses the increase in small to mid-size firms investing in cyber liability insurance. From the ILTA LegalSEC Summit of 2014, learn the pros and cons of different levels of cyber-insurance policies in “To Purchase Cyber-Insurance or Not: That Is the Question." When shopping, remember that cyber-liability insurance is still a fairly new type of policy. Expect changes and know what is happening in this market, by watching the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and Property Casualty Insurers Association of American (PCI) for new changes in the business model and legislation.

This past week ILTA created the Office 2016 readiness report for vendors to update and members to peruse for Office 2016 readiness.
Session recordings from ILTACON 2015 can be accessed on the Connected Community here.
Matt Homann and his team at Kendeo LLC used storyboarding to capture ideas and lessons from several sessions at ILTACON 2015. In addition, Kendeo LLC posted an “Idea Wall’ posing future-focused questions and challenges for attendees. A photograph of the Idea Wall can also be accessed on the Connected Community.
