This past week members discussed SharePoint backups and more. If you still need to plan your conference schedule for the SharePoint||Office 365 Symposium and/or the LegalSEC Summit, I’ve included links to session previews from speakers and past But Wait… There’s More issues. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.
SharePoint Backup Best Practices
Members recently discussed best practices for backing up a SharePoint farm. Interestingly, while talking with presenters for tomorrow’s SharePoint||Office 365 Symposium about speed dating they noted this topic would not work in the speed dating environment but the experts still love the topic. Symposium presenter Ted Theodoropoulos discussed auditing farm configurations in the April ILTA webinar, “10 Tips for a Healthy SharePoint Environment.” For further investigation see the 2015 ILTACON session, “An In-Depth Look at Modern Backup Strategies.”
To better prepare your schedule for the SharePoint||Office 365 Symposium, review my discussions with Kara Portwood, Jen Raatz, Ted Theodoropoulos, Sean Coleman, and Tim Kenney and the guest post from keynote speaker Richard Harbridge. Don’t forget to download the mobile app.
Security Here, Security There
Whether you attend ILTA’s LegalSEC Summit or not this week, ILTA has security content for you. Like most conference attendees, you probably review the session options on the plane to the conference. Don’t forget to download the mobile app too. In the last few weeks, I’ve shared highlights of sessions from Scott Rolf, Richard Martinez, David Michel and Robin Sommer. This week, David Hansen and Scott Barnhill of NetDocuments and speakers for the data classification and Splunk sessions share a brief preview in “What is Data Classification and Why Is It Important for You to Ask?” and “What is Splunk?” Speaking of NetDocuments, read Joe Davis’ “Interview with Alvin Tedjamulia, CTO of NetDocuments” discussing security, the cloud, storage options and more.
For those of you seeking security knowledge and guidance from your desk, ILTA has security awareness information compiled by your peers in the LegalSEC Community. Security awareness tools include a Generic Information Security Statement Template, Sample Security Awareness Newsletters and a Generic Security Awareness Poster. Peter Mills one of the contributors to the templates will also speak at the LegalSEC Summit on “Security Awareness: A Blueprint from Start to Finish-ish” on June 9th at 11 AM.
SOMETHING EXTRA –Choosing the Right Financial Management System and Ransomware.
Many members recently discussed the need to update or replace their organization’s financial management system. Before taking the plunge consider the recommendations from your peers found in the discussion groups and the on-demand presentations in the New Financial System Series. In this series, you can learn about the selection process, budgeting for a new system, planning the deployment and lessons learned from ILTA peers’ implementations.
Joe Kelly of Legal Workspace recently wrote an article on ransomware. In “Protect Your Law Firm from Ransomware Attacks” he provides tips on using white hats and other methods to respond to a ransomware attack and he addresses how to avoid the attacks.
As ILTA’s content curator, I’m always monitoring the discussion forums to discover what topics are top-of-mind among the members. Each week, I focus on a few areas that spark your interest, and I provide some curated resources to assist your own information-gathering on the topics. If there are specific topics you would like assistance exploring, please contact me at joanne@iltanet.org
