This past week members discussed security with Office 365 and more. Learn about your peers’ experiences at the Legal Innovation & Tech Fest in Melbourne, Australia this spring. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

Office 365 and Security

A member recently asked how firms address security concerns when moving to Office 365. Before getting too far down the path with Office 365, review the Best Practices article by Richard Harbridge from the most recent Peer to Peer, “5 Questions to Ask Before Implementing Matter Center for Office 365” and the ILTA webinar “Negotiating Your Next Microsoft Agreement.”  Now consider security. At the recent SharePoint || Office 365 Symposium several speakers discussed deployments and security concerns. For more details see “Office 365 Differences: Their Impact on Your Users’ Experience and Ways to Embrace or Erase Them,” “Is Office 365 Right for My Firm?” and “Is Office 365 Secure in the Legal World?” Last, the Symposium session “Stories of Innovation: Leveraging O365 Tools Today and Tomorrow” provides a little extra inspiration.

ILTA Steps Up Down Under

More than 280 legal professionals from over 100 organizations attended the inaugural Legal Innovation & Tech Fest — in association with ACC Australia and in collaboration with ILTA. The conference was held in Melbourne, Australia in May. Here’s what some of ILTA’s members had to say about the event:

“The Legal Innovation & Tech Fest was really well-attended by a cross-section of attendees from law firm IT management, in-house counsel and lawyers and partners. The session presenters and content provided a varied range of interesting topics and insights. It was great to have support and representatives from ILTA onsite, and everyone I spoke with said they got great value from the event and would be keen to support future events.” – Berys Amor, Corrs Chambers Westgarth

“The Legal Innovation & Tech Fest was the first legal innovation event of its kind in Australia. The program content was informative and attendees were highly engaged with the loads of insights being provided.” – Michelle Mahoney, King & Wood Mallesons

"The first Legal Innovation & Tech Fest in Melbourne was a tremendous success! The sessions provided great coverage on a variety of cutting-edge legal technology topics. But what I enjoyed the most was the intimate nature of the event, which allowed me to meet a lot of great presenters and attendees who came from a variety of forward-thinking, innovative organizations. I met three people who implemented contract analytics systems that I'm currently evaluating and received priceless feedback on the vendors and the current state of technology." – Julian Tsisin, Google

“The Legal Innovation & Tech Fest held in Melbourne, Australia was a great success. It was attended by almost 300 technology and legal professionals. The event brought together equal numbers of individuals from corporate law departments and those working in law firms. This unique balance led to more interesting discussions and diverse perspectives being brought to the table. The sessions were also outstanding— the innovation theme really raised the strategic level of the material and promoted new ways of thinking about the future of the legal industry and how changes in technology will impact it.

We are looking forward to seeing a number of our Australian friends and colleagues at ILTACON 2016 in August. Due to the great feedback and ideas exchanged, we're happy that several of them have agreed to travel to the U.S. and share their insights with the global membership by speaking at the conference.” – Rick Krzyminski, Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz

The Eventful Group posted highlights of the Tech Fest in “If You Aren’t Failing, You Aren’t Innovating Enough: Takeaways from #LGTF16.”

SOMETHING EXTRA – Hyperconvergence and ILTACON Previews

A few members recently asked about hyperconvergence. There’s a webinar this morning, “Go Beyond Legacy Infrastructure: Transform IT with Hyperconvergence.” If you miss the registration, I’ll provide a link to the recording once available. ILTACON 2016 also has a session on hyperconvergence.

Speaking of ILTACON, Jim McCue wrote “ILTACON 2016: Rock Your World with Server Operations Sessions,” an in-depth guide to sessions in the IT Operations area of focus. Maria Smith provides great advice for first time ILTACON participants in “Advice for First-Time ILTACON Attendees – Be a Little Uncomfortable!” Much of her advice holds true for more than first time participants.
