But Wait... There's More

This past week members discussed social media policies and more. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

Social Media Policies

How do you encourage attorneys and staff to share company successes through their social media channels but also protect the company image when that same employee shares a view on social media that does not align with the company or the company’s clients? As with everything, security rises to a top-level concern along with marketing. To address the security measures, ILTA peers compiled a helpful set of Security Best Practices that include issues regarding BYOD, social engineering and mobile device management. As for the marketing, some awareness training should help. With a presidential election nearing in the United States, this becomes a more immediate need.* Get basic tips from Heidi Cohen’s “5 Factors Every Social Media Participant Must Consider” then scan Harvard Business Review’s recommendations on “How to Separate the Personal and Professional on Social Media.” With awareness and policies in place, consider how to promote your quality content in the ILTA webinar “Content is King – Technology’s Role in the Movement.” Also heed Paul Wittekind’s advice in the Peer to Peer article, “Shadow IT: Your Friend, Not Foe.” Before completely shutting down a staff member’s company-related social media activity, learn more about what s/he is doing. It may be the next LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, Peach…

*If you want to hide political posts from your Facebook feed without unfriending anyone, see “Block Political Posts on Facebook and Survive Election 2016.” This does not yet work on your Facebook app on your phone, only your laptop or desktop browser.”

More ILTACON Session Recommendations

Jim McCue shares a frightening photo of his dog along with some excellent recommendations on security sessions in “Why Security Professionals Should Attend ILTACON 2016.” Once again Julie Brown takes care of the litigation support community’s conference planning needs. She shares her schedule plan along with some helpful tips in “2016 ILTACON – A La Lit Support.”

SOMETHING EXTRA –Records Management Tools Scheduled to Sunset and Google Activity

A few weeks back members discussed end of life issues with records management tools like Autonomy Records Manager and LegalKey. Your ILTA peers at Jackson Lewis P.C. recently faced the same issue.  They share their experiences in the selection, deployment and adoption processes for a new tool in the webinar, “FileTrail: Jackson Lewis – A Case Study for Modern Records Management.”

As ILTA’s content curator, I’m always monitoring the discussion forums to discover what topics are top-of-mind among the members. Each week, I focus on a few areas that spark your interest, and I provide some curated resources to assist your own information-gathering on the topics.
