This past week members discussed NIST instructions regarding two-factor authentication, ILTACON session recommendations for KM professionals, attorneys and those in legal operations. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

NIST in the News

Last week NIST appeared in the news regarding the proposed deprecation of SMS in two-factor authentication. In a NIST blog post they clarify the meaning of deprecation. “Deprecation is standards-speak for “you can use this puppy for now, but it’s on its way out.” NIST explains that SMS as a second factor authentication is better than relying solely on single-authentication but the market now offers better second factor authentication options. Ricky Brooman wrote about this in the Peer to Peer article in the winter 2015 issue, “RSA SecurID: The Rise of the Software Token.” You will find more beneficial security resources including the “2016 Study of the Legal Industry’s Security Practices” on ILTA’s LegalSEC page.

ILTACON Musts

This past week David Hobbie wrote his annual recommendations for the KM professional attending ILTACON. David keeps you very busy and well-informed in his curated “ILTACON 2016 – Sessions of Interest to Knowledge Management Professionals.”

Did you know attorneys attend ILTACON? They do! Jason Dirkx tells us why in “Why Attorneys Should Attend ILTACON.” Share this one with the attorneys in your office.

All signs point to a new age where clients and outside counsel collaborate to find common ground in efficiency, innovation and maintaining a quality work product. Joy Holley recommends Legal Operations sessions you won’t want to miss in “ILTACON 2016: Preview of Legal Operations Sessions!”

If you are attending ILTACON, you are embracing change! Rick Krzyminski and Cheryl Disch want your input on how change has or will impact your work and the legal industry by answering a brief survey.
