Last week members discussed data visualization tools and more. This week’s ILTACON TV highlight focuses on thought leaders in e-discovery. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.
"Every Picture Tells a Story" – Data Visualization
Thanks to Rod Stewart for these accurate words and for getting his song, “Every Picture Tells a Story,” stuck in my head on auto-repeat. Data visualization tools help us explain problems, see opportunities, demonstrate successes and make comparisons with colorful “pictures” that allow us to avoid long number sets, at least for a while. Members recently asked about two large players in the data visualization field, Tableau and Microsoft’s Power BI. What’s the right tool for you? BetterBuy.com offers pros and cons for each in “Tableau vs. Power BI: Comparing Pros and Cons.” A LinkedIn Pulse article by Santiago Tacoronte offers “5 Reasons Why Power BI Is Taking over Tableau as the Best BI Tool.” Then, Computerworld says “Tableau Hits Power BI as ‘Falling Short’; Microsoft Fires Back.” After reading the reviews, consider ILTA content including two ILTACON 2016 sessions, “The Essential Toolbox for Data Quality Management and Visualization” and “Data Analytics You Can Do Now in Legal.” Just when you think you have data analytics and visualization under control, the Harvard Business Review publishes “Why You’re Not Getting Value from Your Data Science.”
ILTACON TV Highlights – An E-Discovery Bonanza
Litigation support and e-discovery thought leaders visited the ILTACON TV studio at ILTACON 2016. Hear about Michael Quartararo and Scott Cohen’s approach to applying project management to e-discovery. Judge Andrew Peck tells us about his views on proportionality and the new Rule 34. For access to all ILTACON TV interviews, visit the ILTACON TV page.
SOMETHING EXTRA – ILTA Blogs and John Alber on Lessons to Learn from Uber
ILTA’s Blog page has many great new contributions including Chris Boyd’s KM blog on “people-finding,” Ryan Steadman’s “Why Process Efficiency, Project Management and Relationship Data Are Now the Keys to Success in Law Firm Client Relationships” and Tony Gerdes’ “Continuing the Crash Course: Following up on the Legal Tech Audit Session from ILTACON 2016.” Speaking of ILTACON 2016, read Brooke Raymond’s recent post in Law Lines, “Librarians and ILTA – A Natural Synergy,” where she recounts her experience and highlights some of her favorite presentations available in the ILTACON Downloads.
At the end of November, John Alber wrote a compelling column for Legal IT Insider on the need for big law to seek, absorb and react to feedback quickly à la Uber. Read more in “Uber-Style Feedback for BigLaw.”
