This past week members discussed the undying and frustrating love of paper. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.
Paper, How I Do NOT Love Thee
Every few months it seems a member asks a question related to increasing digitization and decreasing paper in the office. Why must we keep those original documents that cost money to store in physical spaces? ILTA volunteers have produced several articles and recordings to help you reduce and maybe even eliminate paper in your office. Steve Irons writes “A Paper-to-Digital Master Plan” which includes recommendations for writing policies and workflows and the needed capabilities of technology and vendor support. Ginevra Saylor recently wrote the KM Blog post “Are You Ready to Go Paperless?” She provides helpful steps to take and a link to an article that will convince those who have not embraced the concept of a paperless office. In the ILTACON recording, “The Why and How of a Paper-Light Office,” speakers from firms offer practical advice and guidance based on their experiences in making a firm paperless or paper-light. If you still receive pushback on your plan to reduce or eliminate paper, read the ILTA white paper article, “Top 12 Objections to Scanning and Destroying Paper,” for an effective way to respond. This article also includes ethics opinions and other legal citations to consider.
SOMETHING EXTRA – ILTA Radio on Physical Security and ILTA Takeaways on Exchange Online
Security concerns and security awareness in the digital world take center stage. David Tremont and Heath Stanley remind you to plan for physical security as well in the ILTA Radio recording, “Physical Security: Is It an Afterthought?”
Considering Exchange Online? ILTA hosted a virtual roundtable to discuss how to get buy-in, the migration process and adoption after implementation. Roundtables are not recorded to allow for an open discussion, however ILTA has created a Takeaways document that highlights the panelists discussion of “things to know” and “things to do.” Join the Microsoft –Server Applications community to access the takeaway document. Watch for a second virtual roundtable on Exchange Online in May.
