Choosing from all the great sessions may be your biggest challenge while attending ILTACON. Thankfully several volunteers from the ILTACON Volunteer Committee and beyond provided excellent recommendations in the areas of focus. If you missed them earlier, they are listed below. Some of you may say, “But I’m not going to ILTACON this year.” We’ll miss you, but don’t despair. Many of the sessions will be recorded and they will be available on the ILTACON website. Imagine if you can a world where Tim Tebow wins playoff games. A world where George Clooney is still relevant. A simpler time, really. Yes, the year was 2012, and this bright eyed, newly minted legal operations professional was on his way to Washington, D.C. in search of answers. Not answers about how someone who can’t throw becomes an NFL quarterback, though that is indeed a mystery. No, the more important issue at the time was where to start in my new role as the Legal Operations manager in charge of technology at PNC. My first conference didn’t start off very well. I am a bit introverted by nature and mostly roamed around the ...

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in DC later this month for ILTACON. We are “embracing change” as our theme and also in our planning for conference. We encourage you to participate in a brief pre-conference survey about how change has or will impact your work and our industry. Results of the survey will be shared with ILTACON participants and with our keynote speaker. It will just take a few minutes of your time and should result in an interesting snapshot of our collective experience around change. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NXJ8YVD - Rick Krzyminski & Cheryl Disch

In today’s rapidly evolving marketplace, law firms are more focused than ever on effective and innovative delivery of legal services. ILTACON has a great slate of Legal Operations sessions (more than 40!) dedicated to how outside counsel can leverage technology and human resources to better understand, communicate and collaborate with clients. Here are some of the highlights: Corporate Legal Day Corporate Legal Day (exclusive to ILTA law department and legal operations staff) kicks off with Gladiators Welcome! A Corporate Roundtable to Arm You For Battle (Monday 11:00-12:00) . This session is focused on how best to ...

If you’re an attorney reading this post and you’re curious about why you should attend ILTACON, the answer is simple: It’s all about you ! Most legal technologists are well aware of the benefits ILTACON has to offer folks in legal IT world. However, as a Knowledge Management Attorney, I was asked to write about why attorneys should attend ILTACON. As I was preparing to write this post I struggled to zero in on one specific reason that an attorney should attend the conference. Because in reality, there are sessions up and down the schedule and across the timeslots that are relevant to the practicing lawyer in today’s legal market. ...

As I did last year I am delighted to be able to share my take on which of the fabulous slate of educational sessions at ILTACON 2016 might be of particular interest to knowledge management professionals, at each of the sixteen time slots when choices must be made and during other key points. My role as the Team Coordinator of the peer professionals managing the Information Management track sessions has not changed, however, the areas of focus associated with team has shifted slightly to include marketing, and in addition the conference theme overall is embracing change . As before, there is such a wealth of educational content related to knowledge ...

I encourage you to take a moment and review other sessions on the ILTACon website or on the ILTA Conference App that you may find of interest. There are sessions regarding leadership, professional development, security, generations, client relations and a wide array of other topics that you may find of interest. So let’s start with things to do before you arrive. Check the ILTACon website and download the ILTA App to your mobile device. I highly recommend the ILTA ...

As the leader of the Technical Operations ILTACON Conference Committee Team, I've had the honor of working with my awesome team members (David Alberico, David Neesen, Mike Viscito, Nadia Choptain and Tim Golden). One of our areas of focus this year is security. Apparently that's still important.... I like to use a picture of my dog Taquito to remind me of security challenges (like falling asleep in my own home). This is his "welcome to the couch" face. But I digress. One could spend the whole week at ILTACON just going security sessions, but please don't. Here are some security sessions you should attend for ...

Technology Support Services is a new area of focus this year that combines a number of areas under one umbrella (think User Support on vitamins!). We are riding the wave of change to help you support your most valuable asset – your users! Our team is working on sessions that will help you provide the best user support experience, revitalize your training programs, manage your training content (LMS shootout), and gauge the effectiveness of what your users are learning. We will also be looking at the implications of recent changes to the rules of professional conduct and the requirement that lawyers be proficient in the use of technology. Here are just a few ...

I was on a Facebook group for legal marketers the other day, and someone posed the question “ What one conference would you go to if you are responsible for marketing technology at your law firm ?” Without hesitation I answered ILTA, for so many reasons: 1. Marketing is all about technology . When was the last time your marketing department implemented a new program that didn’t rely on technology to facilitate its success? Whether email marketing, websites, social media, pitches, blogs, client management… , marketing programs require technology to help make the magic happen. You’ve probably seen the stat that, by 2017, the CMO will outspend the ...

With ILTACON less than six weeks away, I wanted to share some thoughts about the fantastic roster of Business and Legal Process Improvement sessions available for you this year. With 60(!) sessions tagged as Business and Legal Process Improvement sessions, deciding which sessions to attend will be a delightful challenge. Hopefully this post will help you navigate the session agenda and anchor your calendar with a few must-do sessions that are not to be missed. As with every conference, you will periodically find yourself torn between different sessions at the same time, so please make sure to check the ILTACON site after the conference for session materials ...

ILTACON 2016 is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve started to take a peek at the more than 200 sessions offered throughout the week. You might notice that the session agenda for this year now includes a “Target Audience” column to help you more easily identify the sessions that might be of most interest to you. In this post, I’m going to focus on those sessions most suited for the Marketing and Business Development professionals who will be attending the event, as well as a few of the fun networking events open to all attendees. I’ll also add some information on those sessions that are designed to appeal to a much wider audience, ...

As law librarians continue to transition to the “new normal” of managing digital library platforms, supporting knowledge management services (including firm intranets, expertise databases, enterprise search and more), contributing toward LPM efforts, and expanding BusDev & Competitive Intelligence services, they need new avenues for professional development more than ever before. ILTACON 2016 can help Law Librarians keep up with the latest innovations and position them to obtain technology skills needed to grow professionally and take on new and evolving roles. In addition to programming, ILTA has created a “ Communities of Interest ” networking event ...

Hi, my name is Jim McCue and I've had the pleasure of leading the Technology Operations team for the ILTACON 2016 Conference Committee. If you're curious about who is on Conference Committee this year or how to join for next year, all that info is at ILTACON 2016 Planning Committee . My team covers a couple areas of ILTACON programming, IT Operations and Security. Today I'd like to highlight a few sessions in the IT Operations arena: For our journey today, let's start in that mysterious and hopefully cold area, the data center (session names are in red for easy reading): Keep Up With the Trends in Today’s Data Center This session will ...

ILTACON can be overwhelming for first-time attendees - the number of people, the immense vendor hall, your inbox overflowing with invitations for social events, and the expansive choices of educational sessions. It can be an assault on your brain and body. Fortunately, the ILTACON website provides great tips to help make your ILTACON experience more comfortable: drink lots of water, wear sensible shoes, bring a light jacket to the sometimes cool conference rooms, and pace yourself! As a veteran attendee of nine ILTA conferences and three years on the conference committee, I suggest trying a few uncomfortable activities to get even more out of your ILTACON ...

Change is in the air this year, and your ILTACON 2016 planning team is hard at work on educational sessions that will help you embrace and lead change in your organizations. We have five teams of volunteers working on a number of areas of focus. I’m proud to be working on the Applications area this year, and we have great content coming your way. One of the biggest changes of the year for the desktop is the move to Windows 10. This new operating system brings with it a host of changes. In addition, this year brings a new version of Office, Office 2016, along with growing interest in the cloud offering Office 365. We will offer many sessions to help you ...

With the session list published, you can plan for a great learning and networking experience at ILTACON 2016 . Last fall ILTA volunteers developed a new structure for organizing educational content around focus areas that best reflect the membership’s interests. You may have noticed ILTACON Committee Co-Chair, Cheryl Disch, mentioned areas of focus when she told us about “Embracing Change at ILTACON 2016.” The ILTACON 2016 Volunteer Team used this structure to plan the sessions for this year’s conference and to make your selection of sessions easier. See Cheryl’s piece “Taking Ideas and Running with Them” for more details on conference session development. ...
