How Can KM Teams Successfully Collaborate With IT/Innovation?
Please join your peers at ILTA's quarterly meeting for professionals in Knowledge Management for an in person meeting and networking drinks at Walkers Global, London EC3M 7AF, moderated by your ILTA KM Special Interest Group Steering Committee.
As the generative AI (r)evolution accelerates, the relationship between Knowledge management (KM) and Innovation has never been more important. Firms are under increasing pressure to embed AI-enabled tools and other legal technologies into the everyday workflows of lawyers and business services professionals, making effective collaboration between these functions essential.
This session will draw on participant experiences to explore how firms are sharing responsibilities across KM and Innovation teams, where challenges arise, and what practical strategies are emerging to support collaboration.
We will focus on:
- Who typically leads AI projects and strategic initiatives?
- Should AI capabilities sit closer to KM or IT/Innovation functions?
- At what stage are different teams brought in, and how are responsibilities divided across pilots, product ownership, BAU support, governance, architecture, and driving adoption?
- What new roles are emerging (e.g. legal prompt engineers, AI product managers, practice innovation managers), and where should they sit?
- How are KM professionals evolving and are they being upskilled into more technical, AI-focused roles?
- Where do the biggest capability gaps exist today?
- To what extent are KM and Innovation teams converging or being combined?
