PURPOSE:
The LegalSEC Summit is a two to three day event for technology professionals at every level who manage security, information governance and data privacy projects and initiatives in support of the practice of law, providing premier learning and networking opportunities developed by a team of peer volunteers led by the Summit Education Co-Chairs.

ROLE:
The LegalSEC Summit Education Co-Chairs provide oversight of the educational program of the Summit, to ensure it provides value for ILTA members as the premier educational and networking information security event for the legal sector. They focus the efforts of the educational program on solving security challenges in legal organizations and improving the security posture of the global legal community.

The Co-Chairs work with the LegalSEC Steering Committee, Program Planning Council, and ILTA staff, leading the volunteer team that develops the education sessions within learning pathways for specified target audiences.

The Co-Chairs additionally serve as liaisons to ILTA’s Program Planning Council for the duration of their term.

TERM:
LegalSEC Summit Co-Chairs serve a two-year term, staggered to ensure continuity between planning teams. The term begins following the conclusion and wrap-up of the LegalSEC Summit, and concludes following the conclusion of the LegalSEC Summit in year two:
  • year one, learning from the incumbent Co-Chair and ILTA Staff
  • year two, mentoring, coaching and leading the incoming Co-Chair and planning committee
The time commitment for this role averages approximately 8-10 hours a month.

TEAM COMPOSITION:

The team is comprised of the following roles:

  • LegalSEC Summit Executive Chair
  • LegalSEC Summit Education Co-Chairs (three positions for summit year 2020)
  • Please note: For the summit in 2020 there will be three LegalSEC summit Co-chairs, two incumbent Co-chairs and one incoming Co-chair. For following years there will be two co-chairs, one incumbent and one incoming)
  • LegalSEC Summit Session Coordinators

In addition to these members, the Summit planning committee is supported primarily by the ILTA Event Education Manager and Event Education Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

LegalSEC Summit
  • Work within ILTA’s programming framework, strategic goals, target audiences and planning structure for the Summit
  • Select, lead, coach, mentor and inspire members of the Summit planning team
  • Oversee the development of the comprehensive Summit education program, meeting task and event deadlines
  • Structure and manage the speaker selection process and speaker experience
  • Select keynote speakers for the conference, working with the ILTA Event Education Manager on potential speakers, interviews, and final selection
  • Conduct collaborative meetings and make presentations to small groups and large audiences (in person and conference calls)
  • Embrace an agile, nimble and flexible approach to Summit planning, participating in the continuous improvement process and problem-solving
  • Manage provision of input into the Summit planning from other sources such as any Executive Advisors, audience focus groups, and the Partner Advisory Counsel
  • Opening remarks to welcome attendees to the Summit

Program Planning Council
  • Assist in developing ILTA's overall annual programming framework
  • Communicate/collaborate with the Council regarding Summit programming and how it fits into the programming framework

DUTIES:

LegalSEC Summit
  • Attend the Summit, providing public welcome and introductions, and facilitate wrap-up sessions
  • Lead regular planning team meetings by voice and/or video
  • Serve as an ambassador for ILTA by promoting LegalSEC and volunteerism

Program Planning Council Liaison
  • Actively participate in Council meetings (monthly phone calls and annually in person)

In Person Meetings (with most travel expenses covered by ILTA):
  • Program Planning Council (October)
  • Ascend (January)

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SERVICE:

Objective Criteria:
  • ILTA member
  • Complete the ILTA Conflict of Interest Form
  • At least two years’ experience working in legal technology
  • Experience as a speaker, author, or regular e-group contributor (or other volunteer experience within ILTA or similar professional organization)
  • Ability to attend any in-person planning meetings
  • Ability to attend the LegalSEC Summit
  • Willingness to accept direction from the volunteer leadership and ILTA staff as required
  • Willingness at all times to act as a reflection of ILTA’s core values

COMPENSATION:

ILTA volunteer leaders do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses.
