PURPOSE:
ILTACON is the premier educational and networking event for the legal sector. This four-day event features extensive educational content inspired by and developed by peers, with a 40-member volunteer planning committee that works collaboratively under the oversight of two co-chairs.
ROLE:
The ILTACON Co-Chairs provide oversight of the educational program of the conference to ensure it provides value for ILTA members. The Co-Chairs liaise with the Program Planning Council, ILTA staff, and others in developing the learning pathways for targeted member segments.
The Co-chairs lead the ILTACON planning committee and are responsible for achieving the strategic goals of ILTACON by:
- Delivering high-quality educational sessions that bring value to attendees and their supporting organizations
- Leveraging the expertise of internal and external communities
- Developing and supporting planning committee members
ILTACON Co-chairs serve as liaisons to and voting members on ILTA’s Program Planning Council, the team of volunteers responsible for delivering ILTA's overall Programming Framework.
COMPENSATION:
ILTA volunteer leaders do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses. ILTACON registration, travel, and lodging fees are waived for ILTACON co-chairs, both current and incoming.
TEAM COMPOSITION:
The ILTACON Planning Committee is comprised of the following member volunteer roles:
- ILTACON Co-Chairs (2)
- ILTACON Team Coordinators (6)
- ILTACON Session Coordinators (35)
In addition to these members, the ILTACON planning committee is supported primarily by the ILTA Director of Education and Education Coordinator.
TERM:
ILTACON Co-Chairs serve a staggered two-year term, which begins immediately following ILTACON, and concludes at the closing of ILTACON in year two:
- year one in a junior role, learning from the senior co-chair and ILTA Staff
- year two in a senior role, mentoring, coaching and leading the junior co-chair and planning committee
The time commitment varies but averages 3-4 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ILTACON
- Work within ILTA’s programming framework, strategic goals, target audiences and planning structure for ILTACON
- Select, lead, coach, mentor and inspire members of the ILTACON planning team
- Oversee the development of the comprehensive ILTACON education program, meeting task and event deadlines
- Structure and manage the speaker selection process and speaker experience, including the selection of series facilitators as needed.
- Select keynote speakers for the conference, working with the ILTA Event Education Manager on potential speakers, interviews, and final selection.
- Conduct collaborative meetings and make presentations to small groups and large audiences (in person and conference calls)
- Embrace an agile, nimble and flexible approach to ILTACON planning, participating in the continuous improvement process and problem-solving
- Manage provision of input into ILTACON planning from other sources such as any Executive Advisors, audience focus groups, and the Partner Advisory Counsel
- Opening remarks to welcome attendees to ILTACON
Program Planning Council Liaison
- Assist in developing ILTA's overall annual Programming Framework
- Communicate/collaborate with the Council regarding ILTACON programming and how it fits into the Programming Framework
DUTIES:
ILTACON
- Participate in ILTACON planning meetings virtually and/or requiring travel:
- September: Co-Chair meeting
- October: Co-Chair/Team Coordinator meeting
- January: Entire ILTACON team meeting
- Feb/March: Co-Chair/Team Coordinator meeting
- Attend ILTACON, including any pre-ILTACON planning meetings
- Regularly participate in planning meetings by voice and/or video:
- co-chair/ILTA staff calls
- co-chair and team coordinator calls
- all-team calls
- individual planning team calls (as needed)
- Serve as an ambassador for ILTA by promoting ILTACON and volunteerism
PROGRAM PLANNING COUNCIL LIAISON
- Actively participate in Council meetings (monthly phone calls and annually (October/November) in person)
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SERVICE:
Objective Criteria:
- ILTA member
- At least one year in the ILTACON Team Coordinator role, or similar volunteer role within ILTA.
- Willingness to accept direction from the volunteer leadership and ILTA staff as required
- Willingness at all times to act as a reflection of ILTA’s core values
- Approval by employer
