The Program Planning Council comprises subject-matter experts and thought leaders in various areas of disciplines, representatives from conference planning teams and representatives who focus on law firm and law department members' needs at local and international levels. They collaborate to develop an overarching programming framework that serves all sectors of ILTA’s membership.

The Program Planning Council is an appointed team of volunteers responsible for delivering ILTA’s annual programming framework which includes the programming priorities, areas of focus, target audiences and types of deliverables that all volunteer programming teams use as a guideline for program development in that programming year. This team liaises with all areas of the organization including programming teams, conference and summit teams, relationship teams, international and corporate teams, publications, strategic relationship teams, board of directors and other volunteer groups to ensure this framework provides value to ILTA members.

Two year terms with a maximum of three concurrent terms; renewable subject to selection process; can reapply after two years of non-service: August 1 to July 31

ILTA volunteer leaders do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses.

The team is comprised of individuals liaising, leading, or representing the following ILTA groups:

  • Program Planning Council liaisons for Technology Solutions (2)
  • Program Planning Council liaisons for Knowledge Management and Marketing (2)
  • Program Planning Council liaisons for Security and Compliance (2)
  • Program Planning Council liaisons for Corporate (2)
  • Program Planning Council liaison for Knowledge Advisors (1)
  • Program Planning Council liaison for LegalSEC (1)
  • Program Planning Council liaison for International Programming Team (1)
  • Program Planning Council liaison for Publications (1)
  • Program Planning Council liaison for Strategic Business Partners and Partner Advisory Council (1)
  • Program Planning Council liaison for Talent Council (1)
  • ILTACON Co-Chairs (2)
  • Board Liaisons (2)

The team will be supported by the Program Manager, Education and Content as their ILTA staff liaisons.


  • Help execute on ILTA'S Strategic Plan as it pertains to ILTA programming
  • Develop the Programming Framework for the year
  • Lead and/or participate in specific PPC initiatives
  • Liaise, lead, or represent assigned ILTA volunteer teams
  • Coach ILTA volunteer leaders and content team members
  • Embrace an agile, nimble and flexible approach to programming
  • Abide by ILTA's Conflict of Interest Policy


  • Participate in monthly one-hour conference calls
  • Liaise with staff and volunteer groups to execute deliverables
  • Participate in team discussions via Slack channels and email
  • Up to Two In-Person, Virtual, or Other Multi-Day Meetings (as Scheduled) (with most travel expenses covered by ILTA)

Qualifications for Service
Objective Criteria:

  • Active ILTA member
  • At least four years’ experience working in legal technology
  • Program Planning Council Liaisons for Litigation and Practice Support, Practice Management, Technology Solutions, Knowledge Management and Marketing, Security and Compliance, and Corporate Content Teams need to have at least two years prior volunteer experience developing content on a content coordinating team or equivalent conference committee.
  • Program Planning Council Liaison for Publications qualifications are outlined within the associated position description.
  • Program Planning Council Liaisons for the Board, Knowledge Advisors, LegalSEC, International Programming Team, Strategic Business Partners and Partner Advisory Council and Talent Council need to have at least one year prior volunteer experience within the volunteer groups they represent. Experience as a speaker, author, or regular e-group contributor (or other volunteer experience within ILTA or similar professional organization)
  • Willingness to accept direction from the volunteer leadership and ILTA staff as required
  • Willingness at all times to act as a reflection of ILTA’s core values
