Business Intake and Conflicts

    I'm curious about other firm's business intake/conflicts department size. We have approximately 275-300 attorneys and three attorneys in the business intake/conflicts department who review and resolve conflicts. Is this standard?

    Hi,

    We have 2 conflicts analysts and 1 conflicts attorney for our 160 attorneys.  We are in process of hiring a 3rd analyst.

    Larger firm here with roughly 1000 attorneys.  We have 9 conflicts attorneys and 4 conflicts analysts.

    I have also been trying to obtain some benchmarking.  We have 410 attorneys.  4 Specialists and 3 conflicts attorneys.  Our conflicts clearance is centralized.

    When we were benchmarking, before this group was created, I attempted to mine the ILTA directory for info.  I can make no statements as to the accuracy of these numbers, but happy to share.  I made the Google Sheet editable for anyone with this link, so we can update/add our own numbers.

    Thank you. This very helpful.  Does this information make a distinguish between New Business Intake and Conflicts Analyst?  We are 130 attorneys with 3 Analysts.  Our analysts run conflict checks, including new hires, review opening paperwork, and open the matters in our financial system.  I would be interested in learning who has different staff or group who handles the "intake/opening process"?

    I am in the process of restructuring our department and have spent a great deal of time on job titles and responsibilities. I've been looking at what other firms do by reviewing job postings. It seems to be split into 3 categories: Conflict Attorneys, Conflict Analyst, and Conflict Clerks/Coordinators. The Conflict Attorneys analyze and resolve conflicts. The Analysts do the same but with supervision. The Clerks/Coordinators handle the admin side by running conflict reports/creating file numbers.  

    Based on job descriptions alone, other firm's Conflict Attorneys do what our Conflict Analysts do. Based on what you've described, your Analyst do what our Clerks/Coordinators do.

    When I originally created the sheet, I focused on making a distinction between attorneys, directors/managers/supervisors, and analysts.  I can't remember 100% but if I saw clerk, I likely included them as an analyst.  The link above provides edit rights, so I have no objection to columns being added if needed.   This was all based on job titles in people's signatures in the directory.
